Maria Sharapova has signalled a return to form with victory at the Internationaux de Strasbourg on the eve of the French Open, now the glamorous Russian needs to prove she can again deliver the goods at the Grand Slam.
Sharapova recorded a 7-5, 6-1 victory over world No. 77 Kristina Barrois in the final at Strasbourg to claim just the second clay court title of her career, and showed some positive signs just in time for Roland Garros in her second tournament back after two month’s out of the game to recover from an elbow injury.
It’s also Sharapova’s second title of 2010, the first coming at the Cellular South Cup in Memphis in February, shortly before the 23-year-old was forced onto the sidelines with elbow troubles.
