Maria Sharapova makes a short trip to India after a successful 2012 season – Tennis News
World number two, Maria Sharapova, once said in an interview that ‘beauty sells’ and she was considered to be a bit arrogant but later everyone understood and accepted her statement. A Russian blonde girl who is known for her drop-dead
gorgeous figure coupled with skilful tennis play is a face of the sport and probably the most beloved entity on and off the court.
She turned 25 in April 2012 and just a month later, managed to capture the missing Grand Slam trophy, the Roland Garros French Open, to complete a Career Slam. She was almost on the verge of winning a gold medal on her debut Olympics
appearance but the third ranked American superstar, Serena Williams, stood in her way and forced her to end with a silver medal. At 25, the former world number one from Russia owns a Career Silver Slam which is an astonishing achievement considering the level
of competition.
Sharapova made a short trip to India in the past week. She was entertained by some awesome sceneries and experiences. In an interview, she stated, “I began my day with a dosa in breakfast; it came on the chef's advice!” It shows
her experimental nature and love for food. She confessed her contention with her performance in the current season and stated, “The French Open win this year was extra special. I was injured for a year. And to come back with a different perspective about how
to get into winning positions and to learn how hard it is to convert them into wins. It was an incredible experience that I will never forget. After a rewarding season, I get to visit a country that is new for me and I haven't explored before. People appreciate
what you do and that means a lot to me.”
She might have lost successive matches at the hands of reigning world number one, Victoria Azarenka, and the most successful athlete of the season, Serena Williams, but her pedigree was crystal clear whenever she crashed at the
courts. She missed the bulk of the previous season due to injuries and that almost threatened to end her career but she fought back and proved to the world that she has still got the same class and temperament. She is an ideal athlete to have onboard. She
can be used as a brand ambassador as well as the face of tennis considering her sky-rocketing fame across the globe.
