Maria Sharapova “not in shape” to win the 2010 US Open
Born on April 19, 1987 in Nyagan, the Russian professional tennis ace, Maria Sharapova is currently ranked number thirteen in the world by WTA. Sharapova has so far grabbed a total of twenty two WTA singles trophies, as well as three WTA doubles crowns, coupled with an equal amount of major singles titles throughout her career. The 23- year-old Maria was also a runner up at the 2007 Australian Open tournament, 2004 Wimbledon championship, 2006 United States Open competition, as well as the 2008 Australian Open event. She has also been ranked as the number one singles tennis player on four different occasions by the Women Tennis Association.
The Russian sensations winning chances in the upcoming United States Open 2010 are slim. This is primarily because of her serving quality. In order to knock the ferocious participants, the girl undoubtedly needs to focus on her serving style. Currently the right-handed Sharapova is listed as the third hottest to win the crown at the Flushing Meadows this year in New York. Serena Williams and Kim Clijsters are seeded number one and two respectively for the final Grand Slam of the tournament.
Maria is currently not contesting in any of the ongoing summer hard court competitions. However she did manage to reach the final of the WTA Stanford previous week. Soon the Floridian resident will be back in action in Montreal as well as Cincinnati for the upcoming women's tour.
As for Sharapova’s betting odds for the 2010 US Open; she is priced with Boylesports at +800 (8/1). However, the Russian player is having serious problems with her service at the moment and it will affect her results on the hard surface of the Flushing Meadows as well.
The Russian tennis ace from the women’s side, Maria Sharapova has not so far managed to produce any major results after her recovery from an injury. She has only managed to make it to the quarterfinal round of the French Open tournament in 2009. At the grass court Grand Slam tournament, Sharapova was kicked out in the round two of the event, and she only managed to make her way till the third round of the United States Open championship last year.
Keeping in view this year’s Grand Slam tournaments, Maria couldn’t win first round of the hard court Australian Open championship 2010. At the clay court French Open event, Sharapova hardly managed to survive till the third round of the competition. In a more recent grass court Grand Slam, the 2010 Wimbledon, the Russian departed after making it to the fourth round of the tournament.
She failed to participate in any semis or finals after coming back from the injury, and absence from major events lowers the chances of her winning the US Open.
This year, Maria got a few royals that included WTA Strasbourg and the WTA Memphis. According to the stats, Maria stood at 3-6 versus top thirty players from the women’s side throughout the season. All three of these victories came from Stanford, reflecting the hard toil by the young player.
Similar to other top seeded players, the Russian player, Maria Sharapova can be a night mare if she is in form. Considering her recent play and her past performances, tennis critics are of the view that Russian will savour the US title.
But for those who know Maria, they are aware of the talent and the stamina the player is blessed with. With sheer efforts and significant improvement in her serve, Sharapova can surprise the critics at US Open.
