Maria Sharapova outmuscles Petra Kvitova once again to reach the final – French Open 2012
Russian beauty queen, Maria Sharapova, outplayed the Czech tennis ace, Petra Kvitova, in the semi-final clash of the French Open on Thursday. The world number two downed her fourth ranked arch rival for the third time this season,
settling the contest in twin-sets, 6-3, 6-3, to earn a title shot in the final of the Grand Slam tournament in Paris, France.
Looking at Sharapova’s blistering form of the season, it was already anticipated that she would come out as the winner but no one expected the world number four to fall so cheaply. The second seed Russian absolutely dominated her
throughout the contest and raced through the games with utmost ease to drive her out of the tournament in style.
"It was tough to play a great match because of the wind. It was about playing a solid match," Sharapova said. "Patience was very important today, because no matter how well you're playing, so many things equal out. If you're frustrated
by a few mistakes, it can get you down. And I was facing a tough opponent who has given me a lot of trouble. So I was really happy I won in two sets today."
Kvitova was the one who deprived her from the Wimbledon Championship title last circuit but Sharapova has defeated her three times since her Grand Slam loss until date. She was absolutely phenomenal in all segments of the Thursday’s
game and gave no chances to the Czech opponent to get settled in the contest. She broke Kvitova four out of six times, whilst the fourth seed could barely register one break point in the entire battle to fall out.
It is the first time that Sharapova has reached the final at Roland Garros and it seems to be the perfect opportunity for the 25-year-old Russian diva to complete her Career Slam by lifting the missing Grand Slam trophy in Paris.
She has all the other three Grand Slam titles under belt except this only clay-court Major trophy. Sharapova’s run has already propelled her to the world number one spot, replacing Victoria Azarenka and she will be crowned the new top-ranked women’s player
in the coming Monday’s release of WTA (Women Tennis Association) Premier Rankings.
Sharapova will face off against the upsets princess, Sara Errani of Italy, in the final of the French Open on Saturday. Errani is playing her first every Grand Slam final and has already registered piles of upsets en route to the
title round.
