Detractors consider reigning world number two, Maria Sharapova, to one of the most overhyped WTA players.
She is succeeded to the world number one spot after her victory at the French Open Grand Slam held at the clay courts of Paris.

In the indoor hard courts of Open GDF Suez in Paris, she was the top seeded challenger but suffered a surprising loss at the hands of the German professional, Angelique Kerber in the quarter-finals. She received another contest against the Belarusian professional
but was unable to face her might.
The right-hander Russian challenger lost of number one Pole, Agnieszka Radwanska in the final round of Sony Ericsson Open held at the hard courts of Miami. Not only that, she received many surprising defeats at the hands of several lower ranked participants.
However, the Russian professional stood straight irrespective of her losses and continued her voyage.
Analysing her world record, she stands with 60-11 win and loss ratio. She received a straight sets loss at the hands of the American veteran, Serena Williams in the quarter-finals. Her pace started to drastically prove after the International BNL d’Italia
held in the clay courts of Rome. She consolidated a three set win, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6(5) in the final round against the Chinese senior, Na Li. At the French Open, she surprised her challengers by snatching away the winning title from the Italian, Sara Errani.
However, even with her victories in the middle of the season, she is not consistent in her action plan. Although, she manifested a small improvement but her loss at the three Grand Slams and did not in reality justify her world rankings.
The 25-year-old was the top seeded champion at the Wimbledon Championships held on the green grass courts of Wimbledon. She suffered an unexpected loss at the hands of the lower ranked German, Sabine Lisicki.
At the London 2012 Olympics, she was plagued with a troubled stomach it was impossible for her to contest against the might of the 31-year-old, Williams. Regardless of higher rank, she never seemed to belong to the top position. At the US Open, she could
fight beyond the semi-final.
The world number two surely needs to gear up for the next season. She needs to start the next season more aggressively as she will encounter a tough battled at the hands of the former world number one, Williams.
