Maria Sharapova picturing Wimbledon Championships victory in 2013 – Tennis News
New Year resolution of the former world number one, Maria Sharapova, is unleashed. According to her new focus, she is looking to repeat the heroics of 2004 Wimbledon Championships again after a gap of nine years. She is eyeing
the most prestigious title that is contested in London in the month of June. At the All England Lawn Tennis Club, the 17-year-old Sharapova captured her first Grand Slam title after overpowering the tennis icon, Serena Williams, who registered the most emphatic
year after a major injury layoff this year.
Sharapova commented in this regard, “Wimbledon will be my priority next season. This year it was different because of the Olympics but if you ask me about my main goal for 2013, it definitely will be Wimbledon.”
She was the second best at the Women Tennis Association Championship battle in Istanbul. She won all her matches in the Round Rubbers; ousted Agnieszka Radwanska, Sara Errani and Samantha Stosur. She posted a resounding win against
the number one player in the world, Victoria Azarenka, in the semi-final of the contest but couldn’t find the key to unlock a shortcoming of the American superstar, Serena Williams; lost in straight sets.
Commenting about the final of the WTA Championships against Williams, Sharapova said, “She plays a very physical tennis and when she is in top form it's very difficult to beat her but I will try to take my revenge next year.”
The Russian superstar who is 25 years old is eyeing to register a breakthrough performance at the Wimbledon Championships in 2013. She was knocked out in the fourth round at the hands of the German tennis ace, Sabine Lisicki. It
was not the only loss that came with the upset. She had to forgo the number one spot as well. She dethroned the Belarusian tennis ace, Victoria Azarenka, after winning the first French Open title of her career at Paris in May. She captured the top rank in
the world and completed her Career Slam as well.
Sharapova had an opportunity to become the second women in the history of women tennis to complete a Career Gold Slam by winning the gold medal at London. She reached the final of the championship but fall victim to the onslaught
of the 31-year-old American Serena Williams. It has been a very successful year for the Russian superstar who has won titles in Stuttgart, Rome and French Open. Let’s hope the breakthrough extends another year that features some startling moments for ‘Masha’
fans.
