Maria Sharapova slays Alexandra Cadantu in the opening round clash – French Open 2012
Belligerent Russian beauty queen, Maria Sharapova, had an explosive beginning to her French Open campaign on Tuesday, as she absolutely devastated the bleak Romanian competitor, Alexandra Cadantu, in the opening round brawl. The world number two exhibited yet another display of sheer dominance and class to register a perfect 6-0, 6-0, victory on the third day’s play at the clay courts of Roland Garros.
The second seed hot favourite, Sharapova, spared nothing for her 78th ranked opponent in the contest and just blasted her way to victory in the most authoritative fashion. No doubt she is among the top contenders bidding for this year’s Roland Garros title but no one expected such a thumping start from her. Where other top players have been seen struggling a bit to get familiar with the conditions in Paris, France, the slender-legged Russian diva had no troubles at all to get her eye set in the game from the very first minute of the match.
It was a completely one-sided contest between these two, with Sharapova dominating all the way to victory. The 25-year-old Russian was phenomenal in every segment of the game, outsmarting Cadantu with the utmost ease to clear the opening round of the Grand Slam event in Paris. She clinched 20 out of 24 points on her first serve and fired 18 cracking winners, whilst Cadantu utterly failed to belt a single winner or any break point in the entire matchup to finish on the losing side in the end.
"I'm really happy with the way my preparation has been coming into this tournament. I feel like with every year I've improved and enjoy it much more," Sharapova said in her post match review. "Every year I learn a lot more about the game and point construction. I feel like I'm moving a lot better than I did years previously, which has helped me a lot in the recovery process within the point. All of that gives me a lot of confidence for this tournament."
The booming Russian tennis ace will play her second round match against the unseeded Japanese, Ayumi Morita, later this week.
