Maria Sharapova tears away Ayumi Morita in round two – French Open 2012
World number two, Maria Sharapova, sizzled at the red dirt court of Paris, France on the eve of Friday and butchered the 84th ranked Japanese, Ayumi Morita, in straight sets 6-1, 6-1. She reaches the third round of the
Roland Garros French Open having not dropped a single set; in fact lost just two games.
Former world number one from Russia is in devastating form and her black attire has brought some magnificent luck for her as she looks to reclaim her throne from the reigning world number one, Victoria Azarenka, by the end of this
tournament. She has an easy route especially after the first round exit of the championship favourite American number one, Serena Williams.
Both players started the match with a serve hold but after that it was all Sharapova who crushed the Japanese into pieces. She bagged the breakpoints to love in the fourth game and repeated the similar heroics in the sixth game
to take an unassailable lead of 5-1. With just two more points for the Japanese, the slender-legged Russian stamped her authority in the match with a resounding set triumph.
Nothing was going right for Morita. She was trailing a set down and had won just one game in the first part of the match. It was clear that she will have to pray for some miracle to happen at the clay courts of Paris because without
that she was in no position to answer the big booming winners of the Russian.
Sharapova commenced the second set with a breakthrough and bagged the second breakpoint in the fifth game. She was leading 5-1 when Morita prepared to keep the set alive with her third hold but she failed to do so, allowing the
Russian to clear the second round with no tension at all.
Maria Sharapova will be playing the Asia star, Shuai Peng, in the next round. Peng is the 28th seeded player of the tournament and has cleared the first two rounds with not much of a trouble registering straight sets
triumph. However, she is up against the in-form Russian who is no sparing anyone at all. So, it looks to be an easy route for Sharapova to the fourth round.
