Maria Sharapova thanks Japanese trainer for the lessons on clay court movement – Tennis News
Russian former world number one, Maria Sharapova, has a strong belief that her recent rise in the form is due to the help provided by the Japanese trainer, Yutaka Nakamura. She learned a lot from him and that has most probably
propelled her chances of winning the missing Grand Slam at the Roland Garros French Open and climbing to the number one spot in the world.
She commented, “I work with a Japanese trainer that I've known for a long time, a physical trainer from Florida. He was in Australia for a few years and now he came back to the States, so I started working with him in the off-season
a little bit here and there. I'll see him again after here. It's been nice to have him."
The Russian star will lock horns with the Czech fourth seed, Petra Kvitova, on the eve of Thursday for a spot in the grand finale of this year’s French Open. However, she will climb to the number one spot with a win over Kvitova.
So, one of the aims can be achieved in the semi-final and the career Slam can be completed on the eve of Saturday. It is good to see her back in the form and cruising along; slaughtering her rivals with the big booming serves; powerful cross-court and down
the lines winners.
Talking about her Japanese trainer, she stated that
Nakamura has helped her to find firm footing on the clay court; a taxing task for someone who stands 6 feet 2 inches tall. She commented, “There are a few different movements on clay with the sliding and the recovering and getting back into the
point which you work on, but I think it's just a general sense of movement."
Sharapova was recorded to have commented on the movement at the clay court just like a cow on ice; very slippery and discomforting. However, some techniques that are told by the Japanese trainer have helped her lot to have a strong
hold of her movement and sustain control over her shots.
Kvitova, who is Sharapova’s next opponent, commented about the Russian that Maria never gives up and plays the best game every time. It is very hard to power her down and dominate the proceedigns because she keeps on knocking at
the door all the time. Everyone is afraid of the slender-legged Russian and her fans just want her terror to continue for foreseeable future. She is a real gem and everyone wants to see her on top of her game and rankings list.
