Mariajo Uribe says 2012 was "comeback" season for her
Colombian Mariajo Uribe has been desperately seeking to end her victory drought, but the star golfer has said that the year 2012 was a “comeback” season for her professional career.
Uribe failed to grab a victory in the 2012 season, but her performance was much better than it was in the 2011 season.
Speaking to the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour in her recent interview, the young gun said that she is happy that the season went without any trouble.
She said that she did not let her nerve overcome her, which helped her play a natural game in most of the tournaments. “I was more relaxed and consistent during the season. I feel more comfortable
on tour,” Uribe shared.
She further said that her driving has got much better now. “I met 80% of my goals. I am going to Cancun for a week and then spending some time in Columbia practicing and resting. I will be
working on putting and consistency with my irons”.
Uribe has racked up only one professional LPGA title so far, however, there were plenty of events in the 2012 season that could have ended on a triumphant note.
Turning professional in 2009, Uribe quickly grabbed the headlines with her solid short game. When she won the 2011 HSBC Brazil Cup—an unofficial event—her fans knew that her success journey
had just begun and there was no way she would rest on her laurels.
Although winless all season, the Colombian star displayed a solid performance in some of the tournaments. She took the share of seventh position at the LPGA Lotte Championship 2012. Despite
a strong field that featured most of the top-ranked LPGA stars, Uribe carded an overall score of 283.
The Mobile Bay LPGA Classic also saw her in good shape as she took the share of 20th position after she shot an overall score of 280. Uribe got off to a fast start to her campaign
as she registered a 68 in the first round. Keeping the momentum rolling all the way, she shot a 69 in the second round to further cement her position on the leaderboard.
Another tournament that saw Uribe finish inside the top 20 was Sybase Match Play Championship. The ShopRite LPGA Classic also witnessed the LPGA star display a stunning performance as she
shot an overall score of 211 to take the share of 18th position on the leaderboard.
