Mariana Agathangelou and Heather Olver claim Women’s Doubles crown at Polish International 2012
England’s Mariana Agathangelou and Heather Olver put up a phenomenal performance and claimed Women’s Doubles title at 36th Yonex Polish International 2012 on Sunday, March 25, in Poland.
In the final encounter, Agathangelou and Olver showed their aggression and defeated Eva Lee and Paula Lynn Obanana of USA in a convincing fashion.
Agathangelou and Olver, who were the top seeds in Women’s Doubles draw of the event, stamped their supremacy over their lower ranked opponents and wrapped up the title by ending the final match in just 39 minutes.
On the other hand, Eva and Paula played well but not enough to escape defeat from their English rivals and lost the contest in straight games.
Right from the starting points of first set, Agathangelou and Olver controlled the pace of rallies with their wonderful craft and did not show any mercy to their opponents.
The English shuttlers were in commanding position in the opening half of first set and remained ahead on the score board until the one-minute break.
After the interval, Eva and Paula tried to change their game plan but failed to produce good result as their higher ranked opponents were in complete control.
Agathangelou and Olver remained positive in the entire first game and bagged it easily with a tremendous 21-12 score on the board.
In the second game, Eva and Paula showed their brilliance as they matched the speed and perfection of their rivals and remained toe-to-toe in the first half.
On the other hand, Agathangelou and Olver could not manage a comfortable lead this time as their challengers were quite positive and aggressive in the court.
Until the break in the second set, both pairs were close on the score board.
After the interval, the score progressed closely as both sides did not drop the speed of rallies. They remained positive until the score reached in the concluding stage of second game.
Both sides were at 21-21 when Agathangelou and Olver employed their experience and managed to grab two consecutive points and won the set with a close margin of 23-21.
Agathangelou and Olver won the title match in 39 minutes with a 21-12 and 23-21 score on the board.
