The tournament’s favourite, Marianne Skarpnord won the Ladies Norwegian Challenge, held in Hauger, Oslo.
Being a Norwegian, Skarpnord was delighted with the win on her home soil. She was expected to perform superbly at the event. Therefore, the victory was somewhat anticipated by the fans and the experts.
Skarpnord competed in the event mainly on the request of her main sponsor Nordea. Ladies Norwegian Challenge is sanctioned by Nordea Tour.
She commented that she was very pleased with her decision of playing in the tournament. She particularly appreciated the great weather during the event.
The tournament also did well to her golf skills. She had not played much golf earlier and was anxious about her performance in the tournament. She said, “I was very pleased because I didn’t play any golf coming into the tournament so I didn’t know how I
was going to play”.
Marianne Skarpnord played fantastically in all three rounds. She finished the first round with a score of 73. The second round was her best, with a total score of 66. The final round saw her display another round of outstanding game play.
Talking about that third round, she said, “I played okay but putted the best on the second day. In the final round I played really good the first five holes and putted well the last five holes but in between it was nothing to talk about”.
The 26-year-old has five pro wins to her credit so far. This record includes two LET wins. She secured her first LET title in the 2009 Carta Si Ladies Italian Open. Her second win was also in 2009, in Deutsche Bank Ladies Open.
She has also played well in other events, making it among the top-10 a couple of times. This performance has surprised many, as she was not expected to play top level golf without much international exposure.
Marianne Skarpnord is recognized as the top Norwegian golf talent of the recent years. Many commentators are hopeful about her making it big on the LET circuit.
She has a great record as an amateur and she started her pro career on a good note. She still has great golf left in her and tremendous potential of making it to the top on the LET.
