Marianne Skarpnord emerges victorious at the LET Golf 2012 Ladies Norwegian Challenge
Marianne Skarpnord won the Ladies Norwegian Challenge 2012 with a score of 212. The event was held in Hauger Golf Club, Oslo from 4 to 6 July 2012.
Skarpnord played well throughout the tournament, with the best moments coming in the third round. She was up against Daniela Holmqvist, from Sweden and Rachel Bell, the English player amongst others.
The final round saw Skarpnord playing against Camilla Lennarth and Daniela Holmqvist. She started with a three-stroke lead on Camilla Lennarth.
She shot 73 points which landed her another three stroke lead on Daniela Holmqvist. She finished first with a score of 73, 66 and 73.
Marianne Skarpnord was unsure about the event but eventually agreed to play on the behest of her main sponsor Nordea. Another motivation for her was the sanction status of the event. Ladies Norwegian Challenge is also sanctioned by the Nordea Tour.
Talking about the tournament and her hesitation, Skarpnord said, “I was very pleased because I didn’t play any golf coming into the tournament so I didn’t know how I was going to play”.
Initially hesitant, Skarpnord was very happy with the tournament’s result. One worry for everyone was the unpredictable weather that could turn foul anytime.
To everyone’s relief, the tournament was held under perfect conditions with sun shining throughout the event.
Another cause of Marianne Skarpnord’s worry was her own game. She had not played much golf in the preceding months and was skeptic about her performance. However, she played throughout the tournament with ease, the seasoned professional she is.
This is the first win for Marianne Skarpnord on Access Series. She is already accustomed to winning, having two pro titles to her name before the event. She had won the two 2009 Ladies European Tour tournaments held in Switzerland and Italy.
According to Skarpnord, the best thing about her win was that it happened in her country. The Norwegian born golfer was very pleased by the fact. She is already recognized as a top golf talent and she credits her home country for much of her successes.
Next stop for Skarpnord is Ladies Irish Open scheduled for August 3-5.
