Marianne Vos grabbed her first Olympics Gold during the 140 kilometre Women’s Road Race
Marianne Vos of Team Netherlands succeeded in grabbing gold at the 2012 Olympic Women’s Road Race event.
The Dutch is having a terrific season and has already filled her pockets with several victories in the first half of the year.
She recently won the Dutch National Cyclo-cross Championships and the UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships.
Vos also succeeded at the Ronde van Drenthe, the Trofeo Alfredo Binda and the Giro d’Italia Femminile and also bagged five stages at the race.
The 25-year-old builds up on her tremendous form during the biggest cycling event of the year, the Olympic Games.
She crossed the 140 kilometre Women Road Race in an impressive time of 3 hours, 35 minutes and 29 seconds and restricted her major opponents.
Elizabeth Armitstead of Team Great Britain rode right behind her wheel and occupied the second position with Olga Zabelinskaya of Team Russian Federation holding the third spot with a deficit of 2 seconds.
Vos was delighted to grab her first Olympics Gold medal after finishing second in the five consecutive world championships.
"I knew this was another chance and you don't have to think about the years before,” she noted.
“It was a hard race today with the weather conditions also. I felt good”.
“We made a hard race with the Dutch squad with early attacks from Ellen van Dijk, Loes Gunnewijk, and Annemiek van Vleuten as well".
"That was the plan. During the race, I felt like this might be the day that it comes all together".
Marianne reserved her energies and timed her attack to perfection, "I knew it was 140 kilometers and you need some energy for the finish, but I also knew that a hard race was good for me,” she noted.
