Marianne Vos sailed through the finish-line at the Elite Women category of GVA Trofee
Marianne Vos secured her eighth win of the season after dominating the Elite Women’s category at the GVA Trofee. She claimed one of the easiest wins of the season by finishing with a massive lead over her compatriot, Daphny van den Brand.
However, it was the combination of her best form and impressive skills that made the muddy track look so easy.
Other cyclists struggled while the second best performer, Daphny, finished 1 minute and 17 seconds behind her.
Vos commented after winning the race, "It was long and far. Boring? Yeah, a bit but you have to remain focused, there was no opposition today but that was caused by the demanding course. After the first lap I already had a big gap and from there I had to
stay in the rhythm".
It was a one-sided show for the first place, however, a much closer encounter was battled out between the second and the third place finishers.
Sanne Cant lost the second spot with a lapse of 9 seconds after she concluded the race in a cumulative time of 1 minute and 26 seconds.
Van Den Brand told cycling news, "Only during the last lap my engine started running, I didn't have the legs today. Yesterday I received a treatment from the physiologist but that didn't do me well with the high amount of races we do these days. I'll have
to cancel my appointment for tomorrow".
British cyclist, Nikki Harris took 1 minute and 30 seconds to finish the race and secured the fourth spot.
Daphny currently leads the GVA Trofee overall standings after 3 rounds with a total number of 55 points.
The second place finish by the British cyclist, Nikki Harris, during the round 3 earned her enough points for a challenging overall position.
Harris and Daphny now have an equal number of points, 55, but the Dutch cyclist is at the first position because of the fact that she secured more points in the previous race.
Marianne Vos and Sanne Cant also earned an equal number of 50 points each, resulting in a solid third position for Marianne.
Sanne Cant is at the fourth, whereas Sophie de Boer and Gabriella Day are at the fifth and the sixth positions after earning 45 and 42 points, respectively.
Niels Albert won the men’s category of the race with Zdenek Stybar at the second and Sven Nys at the third position.
Kevin Pauwels is now leading the men’s classification after round five of GVA Trofee, with Zdenek Stybar at second, Niels Albert third and Sven Nys occupying the fourth spot.
Mathieu Van Der Poel was successful in the Junior Men’s category after a dazzling first place finish. Wout Van Aert occupied the second whereas Martijn Budding achieved the third position.
Under 23 men’s category was dominated by the Belgian cyclist, Wietse Bosmans, as he managed to finish 3 seconds ahead of the second place holder, David Van Der Poel.
Tijmen Eising secured the third spot whereas Gianni Vermeersch occupied the fourth place.
