Marianne Vos wins the Elite Women Category at the 8th World Cup round, Daphny van den Brand triumphs overall standings
Marianne Vos won the 8th World Cup round in the UCI Cyclo-cross Elite Women category. The event was held in Hoogerheide, Netherland, on Sunday, and it was a perfect stage for Vos to claim her 15th consecutive win.
She crossed the finish-line with no problems whatsoever and defeated her compatriot Daphny Van Den Brand with a lead of 1 minute and 28 seconds.
Katerina Nash of Luna Pro Team claimed the third spot, with Katherine Compton and Lucie Chainel-Lefevre finishing at the fourth and fifth positions.
British riders, Nikki Harris of Team Telenet-Fidea and Helen Wyman of Kona Factory Team were looking good towards the start of the race.
The cyclists were leading the peloton with Marianne, Nash, Van den Brand, Compton and Chainel right behind them.
Chainel and Nash launched their attacks which left Nikki and Helen behind. Marianne finally took the leading spot with Chainel on her wheel towards the finish-line.
She briefed, “My plan was not to start flat out, but to look around and make no mistakes. That worked out for half a lap. I moved up because I made small mistakes because there’s not a lot of space and you can’t see where you ride”.
Daphny van den Brand of Team AA Drink-Leontien.nl won the Elite Women World Cup final standings, with 326 points to her credit.
She stated on winning the race, “I’m very glad with the World Cup win. Today I had to ride my own race and avoid crashes and tire problems”.
Marianne Vos of Stichting Rabo Women Cycling Team is at the second position, with 290 points, whereas Katherine Compton, Lucie Chainel-Lefevre and Helen Wyman claimed the third, fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
On the other hand, Belgian rider Kevin Pauwels won the Elite Men’s category of the event, with Zdenek Stybar, Klaas Vantornout, Niels Albert and Rob Peeters achieving the second, third, fourth and fifth places, respectively.
It was the fourth World Cup victory for Kevin, which also resulted in his overall lead at the Elite Men World Cup final standings.
He is leading the category with 590 points to his credit, Sven Nys is at the second position with 540 points.
Zdenek Stybar, Klaas Vantornout and Tom Meeusen claimed the third, fourth and fifth positions, with 525, 450 and 373 points, after the World Cup final standings.
