Marianne Vos wins the Elite Women Category of UCI Cyclo-Cross round number 6
Dutch cyclist, Marianne Vos, dominated the Elite Women Category of UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup round number 6. She has managed to bag her second World Cup win of the season with a 29 seconds lead over Daphny Van Den Brand.
Vos was overwhelmed with the win as she said, "Not much separated me from Daphny today. I waited for a good moment to attack, and then I went 100 percent for it. After crawling over the steep 'wall' I had a few meters, and I knew that I could turn that into
some more on the following asphalted stretch".
The top three positions belong to Dutch riders as Sanne Van Paassen occupied the third spot with a deficit of 1 minute and 11 seconds over Vos.
Sanne Cant was the top Belgian rider with a solid fourth place finish, whereas the French cyclist, Pauline Ferrand Prevot, secured the fifth spot.
Sophie De Boer, Reza Hormes of Netherlands and Madara Furmane of Latvia were unlucky as the trio could not finish the race.
Despite her second place finish, Daphny scored just enough points to top the overall classifications.
Her total cumulative after the world cup five rounds is 226 points, giving her a huge lead of 46 points over her compatriot Sanne Van Paassen.
Marianne Vos is stable at third spot, she shares an equal number of 170 points with the fourth position holder, Lucie Chainel-Lefevre of France.
Sanne Cant, Katherine Compton and Helen Wyman are at 5th, 6th
and 7th positions with 159, 150 and 143 points, respectively.
Kevin Pauwels won the men’s category after a close encounter with Zdenek Stybar. Pauwels’ win was enough to sail him through to the top position after the round six classifications.
With 430 points, Pauwels leads Sven Nys, who is ten points behind at second position after the round six standings.
Mathieu Van Der Poel, Quentin Jauregui and Daan Hoeyberghs were the top three finishers at the Junior Men’s category.
Wietse Bosmans won the Under 23 men’s category with Tim Merlier at second and Zach Mcdonald finishing third.
The ladies, Marianne Vos and Van Den Brand, had a good day at the Elite Women’s category, finishing first and second, respectively.
