Marie-Eve Pelletier ousts Stacey Tan in second qualifying round – Bank of the West Classic 2011
Canadian, Marie-Eve Pelletier, sent home the American, Stacey Tan, in the qualifying second round of the Bank of the West Classic Tournament 2011 at the Taube Family Tennis Center Stanford University, California. The Canuck, Marie
won the match in forty six minutes and twenty nine seconds 6-0, 6-0.
Meeting for the first time; both the players battled it out on the outdoor hard courts of the Taube Family Tennis Center. Serving first Marie; hit zero aces and struck one line fault while her opponent smashed an ace and with extreme
precession struck zero double faults. However, Marie gained a competitive advantage because of her return serve which was like a trampoline recoiling everything that came its way.
The Canadian’s defence was very strong and she gave no break point opportunities to her opponent and capitalized on her opponent’s break points, she was able to win a hundred percent. Stacy had a very poor return serve and only
attained fourteen percent of her total return points of the set. She was not able save any break point chances. When all was said and done, Marie was a better player and had won almost three times more points than her opponents in the total set points.
After being beaten black and blue one would’ve expected Stacy to jump right back into the game, however, that was not how the events turned out instead Stacy didn’t even try!  This time she performed relatively poorer than the
first. She was not able to strike an ace and instead her accuracy faltered and she struck four double faults all hitting the net. Mean while Marie had perfected her accuracy and struck no double faults and hit two aces.
Marie was able to hit fifty percent of the first serve on target and won sixty eight percent of her total return points. Due to a spot on defence she committed no break points and was able to convert three break point chances to
her advantage. Stacy was no competition for the Canadian and hence her total set points were almost three times less than that of Marie’s.
The 29-year-old won in straight two sets against her opponent and put her to shame. Over all, Marie had a strong defence and committed zero break points. She won with eighty percent of her total serve points, along with a sixty
eight percent of her total return points and had grand total win of seventy three percent.
