Marie Roepke-Line Damkjaer Kruse surge into quarter-final of All England Open Premier Super Series
Denmark’s pair of Marie Roepke and Line Damkjaer Kruse entered into the quarter-final stage after beating Indian pair of Ashwini Ponnappa and Jwala Gutta in the All England Open Premier Super Series 2011, at Birmingham, England.
The Danish ladies entered in the event as a qualifying pair and made an incredible progress to book their place in the top-eight. In the quarter-final showdown, the Danish shuttlers will be facing top seeds, Wen Hsing Cheng and Yu Chin Chien of Chinese Taipei,
who defeated Shu Cheng and Jin Ma of China in the previous round.
In the opening set of the match, the Indians played superbly in the opening half of the game and built a good lead of 11-8. After the one-minute break, the Danish pair played well and reduced the difference to 13-14. Jwala and Ashwini increased the speed
of the game by keeping the shuttlecock low from the net, which forced their opponents to lift the bird high in the air. It gave the opportunity to the Indians to hit the shuttlecock down, by hitting powerful smashes. The Indian pair won the opening set with
a decent margin of 21-17, by spending 16 minutes in the court.
The second game was even tighter as compared to the first one. Both teams remained toe-to-toe until the break, where the Danish ladies were slightly ahead at 11-10. The game remained close until 18-18, where Marie and Line Kruse played positive badminton
and levelled the match by winning the second set with a narrow margin of 21-19. The second set took 19 minutes of superb play from both sides.
The final game of the match was again thrilling, as both pairs reached at 10-10, in the first-half of the set. The score was 14-14, when the Danish ladies came on the driving seat by executing powerful smashes and quick net shots that increased the speed
of the game. Marie and Line Kruse eventually won the set with a difference of 21-18, by consuming 18 minutes. The final score of this 53-minute match was 17-21, 21-19 and 21-18.
