Marie-Soleil Jean-Lachapelle of CAMO pocketed gold medal of the Women’s 50m breaststroke on day three of the 2012 Canadian Summer Nationals at the Edmonton Kinsmen Sport Centre in Edmonton on Saturday, July 21.
The 20-year-old Jean-Lachapelle met expectations of her supporters in the single lap breaststroke discipline as she gathered the crown of the discipline.
Jean-Lachapelle faced strong competition from her strongest challenger Chelsey Salli of LOSC in the event but with her persistent efforts, she managed to reach the podium for first position with a wonderful  timing of 31.99 seconds.
She was chased by Salli, who stayed only 0.05 seconds slower from proving her mettle for the first position and ended second in the discipline with a nice effort of 32.04 seconds.
Salli was trailed by Ashley McGregor of Pointe-Claire Swim Club, who suffered a deficit of 0.02 seconds from her foregoing competitor and made her way to the finishing end as third position holder of the discipline by clocking a fantastic time of 32.06 seconds.
Similarly, the bronze medallist was trailed by Rebecca Terejko of WRMS, who was only 0.02 seconds apart and secured fourth fastest spot of the event by producing a time of 32.08 seconds.
Fifth position of the shortest backstroke swim was obtained by Rachel Nicol of LASC, who stayed just a touch behind her former finisher and tapped the wall with the timing of 32.13 seconds.
The 19-year-old Nicol was traced by Mariya Chekanovych of Simon Fraser Aquatics, who stayed 0.03 seconds behind and submitted a time of 32.16 seconds for sixth position.
