Marie Waland topples Beatriz Ramos in Women’s Singles semi-final of 2012 MBBC Jr International
Norway’s impressive young shuttler Marie Waland showed a gutsy performance on court and reserved her berth in Women’s Singles final after taming Beatriz Ramos of Guatemala in semi-final showdown at the 2012 MBBC Jr International in USA, on Tuesday, July
17.
The second seeded Marie, who showed amazing performance in all of her match in the tournament, maintained her positive run in the semi-final clash against her lower ranked opponent Beatriz and stormed into the final in a spectacular fashion.
The in-form Marie played top class badminton against her third seeded opponent Beatriz and knocked out her in straight sets with a decent margin by working to her maximum potential on court.
The lower ranked Beatriz, on the other hand, has been showing tremendous run in the tournament but failed to show her brilliance in semi-final battle and lost to her higher ranked Norwegian rival without taking any set.
It was a tremendous fight as both ladies proved that they have attained what it takes to become top class shuttler in the world of badminton.
In the opening rallies of first game both injected impressive power in their shots and tried to put pressure on each other by taking the bird early but no one could build a clear lead on the board until the mid-game interval.
After the break, it was Marie who became aggressive at net and also finished the rallies by executing powerful smashes in gaps and managed to take the opening game with a convincing 21-18 score on the board.
The second set of this semi-final was also thrilling for the crowd as both shuttlers again showed their attacking skills.
Beatriz tried to take an advantage on board this time but again could not break the flow of her rival and remained slightly behind Marie until the mid-game interval.
The higher ranked Marie put up staggering show in the concluding phase of second game when she did not commit any mistake and snatched the set with a three-point advantage of 21-18.
Marie emerged as the winner against Beatriz in this straight-set semi-final contest with a reasonable margin of 21-18 and 21-18.
