Marieke Guehrer, the gold medallist in the Women’s 100m butterfly race, hit the wall in 1 minute and 04.81 seconds to win the 100m back-stroke title on the podium. Guehrer has won four gold medals in swimming championships throughout her career. Meanwhile,
Grace Loh of University of Melbourne took home the silver crown on the podium by posting a matchless time of 1 minute and 05.06 seconds.
In the corresponding race, Karina Leane of Flinders University secured bronze title by submitting an impressive time of 1 minute and 05.75 seconds. Katrina Schieber of University of Queensland earned fourth place honours with a time of 1 minute and 08.73
seconds, while Emily Selig of University of Melbourne grabbed fifth place with a mark of 1 minute and 10.23 seconds.
In the meantime, Samantha Bennett of Monash University secured sixth position with a time of 1 minute and 10.79 seconds. Jessica Henshaw of University of Queensland settled seventh with a mark of 1 minute and 11.72 seconds. Last, but not the least, Kate
Thompson of University of Queensland was placed eighth with a mark of 1 minute and 12.84 seconds.
Earlier in the day, Matthew Spence won the Men’s 50m butterfly title with a sterling mark of 25.37 seconds. Sam Mcconnell of University of Sydney earned silver medal on the podium by posting a captivating time of 25.37 seconds, while Shane Kingsbury of University
of New South Wales picked bronze title by submitting a mark of 25.49 seconds.
The 2011 Australian University Games are a good opportunity for young athletes of the home nation to prepare themselves hard for their upcoming events. The championship will conclude on September 30.
