Marieke Guehrer secures Women’s 100m butterfly crown: Day one – 2011 Australian University Games
Marieke Guehrer of University of Melbourne impressed the arena on day one of the 2011 Australian University Games, in Gold Coast, Australia, on Tuesday, September 27. The session of the meet conducted the Women’s 100m butterfly final heat.
In the corresponding splash, Guehrer hit the finishing wall in 1 minute and 02.35 seconds to win the gold medal on the podium. Marieke won the Women’s 50m butterfly title for Australia at the 2009 World Championships, in Rome. In addition, she captured the
Women’s 4x100m freestyle crown for her nation at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, in Delhi.
Besides, she also captured one silver medal in 50m butterfly category in these games. Moreover, Marieke won the 50m butterfly title at the 2010 Pan Pacific Championships, in Irvine. Furthermore, Guehrer secured gold medal in the 4x100m freestyle at the 2011
Summer Universiade, in Shenzhen.
In the meantime, Emma Gray of University of Sydney took home silver medal on the podium by posting a winning time of 1 minute and 03.68 seconds. In the corresponding race, McCleery Ashleigh of Griffith University secured bronze medal on the podium by submitting
a striking mark of 1 minute and 04.53 seconds.
Meanwhile, Katrina Schieber of University of Queensland was placed fourth after he touched the finishing wall with an impressive mark of 1 minute and 06.24 seconds, whereas, Mel Houghton of University of Sydney earned fifth place honours with a time of 1
minute and 08.64 seconds.
Additionally, Jessica Morrison of University of Melbourne was placed sixth with a time of 1 minute and 08.90 seconds. Madeleine Hunnik Van of Queensland University of Technology earned seventh place honours with a mark of 1 minute and 09.16 seconds. Last,
but not the least, Sim Su Lim of Flinders University finished eighth with a matchless time of 1 minute and 10.35 seconds.
All the participants of the meet took a huge ovation from both judges and the crowd due to their mesmerising swims, while the victorious athletes were awarded medals and accolades after the session’s completion.
