Marieke Guehrer wins Women’s 100m freestyle gold – EnergyAustralia SC Championships
Marieke Guehrer of Melbourne VIC won gold medal of the Women’s 100m freestyle on third day of the 2012 EnergyAustralia Short Course Championships at Challenge Stadium in Perth on Friday, September 14.
The 26-year-old Guehrer remained considerably ahead of her opponents throughout the discipline and proved her mettle for gold medal. With her alluring efforts, she gained a comfortable lead over her rivals in the start and made her way to the finishing blockade for the title.
She enjoyed an advantage of one body length over her closest challenger and hit the wall with a phenomenal timing of 52.72 seconds for gold medal.
The champion was followed by Angie Bainbridge of Hunter, NSW, who stayed 0.88 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and tapped the wall with a nice timing of 53.60 seconds for silver medal.
Bainbridge was chased by Brittany Elmslie of Nudgee Brothers, who remained only 0.13 seconds slower from her and surfaced on the finishing blockade as third best finisher by submitting a time of 53.73 seconds.
The third position holder was followed by Jessica Morrison of Melbourne VIC, who suffered a loss of only 0.09 seconds from her foregoing finisher and settled on the wall as third best finisher by reporting a time of 53.82 seconds.
Similarly, fifth best position of the race was obtained by Kotuku Ngawati of Melbourne VIC, who stayed 0.17 seconds slower from her preceding swimmer and tapped the wall with an effort of 53.99 seconds.
Ngawati was trailed by Brianna Throssell of Perth City, who stayed just one stroke away from overpowering her foregoing finisher and posted a time of 54.32 seconds for sixth position.
Throssell was traced by Kelly Stubbins of Waterlions, who stayed 0.04 seconds away from her former finisher and touched the wall with a timing of 54.36 seconds.
Stubbins was traced by Holly Barratt of Swan Hills, who remained 0.21 seconds slower and hit the wall with an effort of 54.57 seconds.
In addition, Guehrer was happy with her top finish in the freestyle event and expressed her desire of accomplishing the same at forthcoming swimming events.
