Marija Ulitina earns Women’s Singles crown to make her presence strongly felt in badminton arena
Ukraine’s Marija Ulitina, who is an emerging shuttler from her country, showed a stunning performance in the arena and made her presence strongly felt by earning Women’s Singles crown at the 37th Yonex Hungarian International Championships 2012
on November 4, in Hungary.
The in-form Ukrainian shuttler, who showed a strong performance throughout the tournament, impressive the local crowd with her tremendous skills and she found an impressive rhythm in the arena which helped her to claim the title in a staggering fashion.
Marija, who was seeded at number six in Women’s Singles draw of the tournament, played with remarkable precision in the tournament and stamped her mark in the arena and remained successful in achieving the crown in style.
In the first round clash, Marija was up against Austria’s Alexandra Mathis who remained in good condition for the last few months. The Ukrainian showed an amazing speed and attacking shots on court and took over the control of rallies at the initial stage.
The incredible variations in Marija’s strokes helped her to continue her superiority against her opponent on court. She was in commanding position by dictating the pace of rallies and easily wrapped up victory in straight games with an incredible margin
on score board.
In the second round, Marija took on the qualifier Soraya De Visch Eijbergen of Netherlands. The higher ranked Marija progressed in the arena with an impressive speed and she did not show any mercy to her rival and remained successful in winning the battle
in straight games with a superb margin without showing any mercy to her opponent.
Marija was up against the top seeded Alesia Zaitsava of Belarus in the Women’s Singles quarter-final. She displayed her incredible skills on court and remained successful in giving a severe treatment to her higher ranked challenger in straight games.
In the semi-final clash, Marija took on Ksenia Polikarpova of Russia who was an un-seeded player in the main draw of the championship. The Ukrainian lady had to work really hard on court as her opponent was also playing at the same level. However, the positive
and attacking play of Marija in the final set of the semi-final clash helped her to win the battle in rubber games with a reasonable margin.
In the title battle, Marija’s rival was none other than the in-form Olga Golovanova of Russia who was fourth seeded player in the main draw of the championship. Many expected it a tough battle and both shuttlers proved them right by putting in their best
effort into the game and remained neck-to-neck in the arena.
Marija took the opening game by playing with remarkable speed and precision but she could not maintain her domination on court as her Russian rival managed to grab the second set making the score levelled on the score board.
However, the incredible Marija showed a wonderful performance by playing with variations and remained successful in maintaining a steady pace of rallies. She did not let her challenger to catch up the deficit in the ending half and won the set to end up
final match with a decent total on the board.
This much needed victory at international stage will certainly boost the confidence of Marija who is now ready to shine in bigger events in Women’s Singles category considering that she has got what it takes to become a top class shuttler.
