Marija Ulitina hammers Nicole Schaller to enter into main round of the 2011 Dutch Open Grand Prix
Marija Ulitina, a spirited shuttler of Ukraine, has entered into the Women’s Singles main round after passing her final test in the qualifying round. She hammered Switzerland’s Nicole Schaller in the 2011 Dutch Open Grand Prix, on Tuesday, October 11, at
Almere, Netherlands.
Ulitina, who was seeded at number two in the qualifying round, delivered terrific performance and ended the winning run of the Swiss shuttler in the event.
It was a tough fight in the opening set of the match when both ladies progressed closely. However, Ulitina played attacking game in the end and won the first set. The second game was completely one-sided for the Ukrainian, as she faced no resistance from
her rival and won it with a huge margin.
Ulitina started her journey in the first game in a defensive way, which helped the Swiss lady to remain close. Both shuttlers put up a strong show of competitive badminton and entertained the crowd with a wonderful exchange of attacking rallies.
No one could establish a clear lead in the opening half as both ladies were snapping each other’s heel by playing at the same speed. At the 60-second interval in the first game, Ulitina was just ahead of her opponent.
After the break, Schaller increased her speed to put pressure on her higher ranked opponent. However, Ulitina played positive badminton and progressed with an equal pace. Until the concluding phase in the first game, the score remained equal.
The Ukrainian employed some fabulous strokes in the targeted areas and won the game by a tight score of 21-19 in 16 minutes.
It was a smooth sailing for Ulitina in the second set, as she found no resistance at all from her passionate opponent. Schaller lost her focus in the game and committed many errors in this set. She dropped down her speed, which helped the higher ranked Ulitina
to dominate the game.
The Ukrainian progressed with a wonderful speed in this set and finished it off in just 10 minutes with a stunning 21-9 score on the board. The final result of this 26-minute straight-set contest was 21-19 and 21-9.
