Marija Vukovic wins first ever gold medal in athletics for Montenegro
At just eighteen years of age, Marija Vukovic is an aspiring athlete from Montenegro. A specialist in the field of high jump, Vukovic has continued to amaze everyone with her performances ever since her inception into the world of athletics.
Ranked at the 13th position at the 5th IAAF World Youth Championships held in 2007 in Ostrava, she made an impressive entry into the international arena. The year 2008 provided her with another opportunity to display her excellence at the international platform when she completed the 12th IAAF World Junior Championships as the 8th ranked athlete in the tournament. The 6th IAAF World Youth Championships held last year at Bressanone, Italy allowed Marija Vukovic to improve her rankings. They jumped upwards from the 13th position to the 9th position. While her jump at the 5th IAAF World Youth Championships was marked at 1.65 meters, she returned in 2009 with a jump of 1.75 meters, displaying her potential for future endeavors in the field of athletics. Her current personal best in the field of long jump is measured at 1.89 meters - a feat that she was able to perform and succeed in this July. Therefore, this aspiring athlete has continued to provide not only other youngsters of her age to follow their inspirations, but has allowed her country with a reason to beam with pride.
