Question:

Marijuana Legality. Opinions?

Illegal drugs and how serious they are taken has just gotten ridiculous i think. Years of prison for growing a plant? Good grief. I know its likely they are selling it if they have lots and lots of them. But with a proposition of a death penalty for smuggling, i think it's just gone too far. Honestly, cigarettes do more damage than marijuana. I think robberies, murder, rape, and crimes as such should be taken seriously, but now just smoking a plant has gone up there with those. I think we need to get our priorities straight.

Anybody care to share opinions about this situation in the US?

  1. If you want to make a difference you need to join NORML.

The way to get laws changed is to join a special interest group.  If everyone who smoked joined NORML things would be different.

  2. cigarettes, marijuana, and alcohol should be illegal.

  3. I believe the problems caused by the outlaw of all drugs are worse than the drugs themselves.

  4. Legalize it.

The government could save a lot of money by not spending on anti-marijuana enforcement, and could make a lot more if it where to be taxed. It would allow the police to focus on truly dangerous drugs, like heroin.

Legalization would also make it safer, as it could be regulated so people know exactly what they're getting. It would cost less.

Also, marijuana isn't as bad as most other drugs. Its less lethal than cigarettes. It doesn't cause car accidents, on anywhere near the same level, as alcohol. There are medical benefits, both known and probably more that are unknown, but could be researched if marijuana is legalized.

Whatever someone wants to do to themselves, as long as its not harming, or endangering, themselves, or otherwise bothering others, it is none of my business.

I think there's a lot of good reasons to legalize it, and not many to keep it illegal, like the notion of a gateway drug, alcohol and tobacco accomplish that on their own.

  5. Imagine an alien coming from another world and wanting to understand our legal system.  How would you explain that, even though alcohol and tobacco directly cause hundreds of thousands of deaths each year (and indirectly cause many more), they are legal, while marijuana is not.

It is because Americans (well, people in general, but esp. Americans) fear change, and they fear what they do not know.  Therefore, politicians (rightly) fear change, too.

I think NORML should team up with the fast food/snack industry (who has more to gain than them?) to try to get these laws changed.

  6. naa then it wouldn't be wanted as much if it were legal

    derrrr

  7. I have the munchies

  8. i know it's illegal, but i would rather see someone smoke weed than drink alcohol.or do the bad drugs.i think they should legalize weed.tax it so the gov, gets there share of the pie.but that's my opinion and that doesn't mean much,
