Marin Baumann tames Rian Abdul Hamid in opening round of the 2011 Indonesia International Challenge
France’s Marin Baumann made a tremendous advancement by beating Indonesia’s Rian Abdul Hamid in the Men’s Singles opening round of the Indonesia International Challenge 2011, at Surabaya, Indonesia, on Tuesday, July 19.
The French shuttler surprised everyone by playing tremendous badminton against the local shuttler, who failed to maintain the pace and control of the game in the entire match. Baumann won the encounter by beating the Indonesian in a game which lasted for three-sets of 50 minutes.
The start of the first game was thrilling, where both shuttlers displayed impressive badminton and remained close until the concluding part of the first set. The score reached at 22-22, when the French played to his maximum potential by utilising his attacking skills and was successful in winning the set by a tight margin of 24-22, in 21 minutes.
The second game was a complete turnaround as the local shuttler found his momentum and started to pick the bird early by moving fast in all dimensions of the court. Until the interval in the second game, the Indonesian was three-points ahead of the French shuttler at 11-8.
After getting back into the court, Baumann tried to control the pace of the rallies, but failed as the local shuttler was playing impressive badminton. The French made many errors and missed some easy opportunities of scoring points and eventually lost the game by a 17-21 score, in 15 minutes.
The deciding game was completely dominated by the French player, who spared no gap in his court where his rival could place his smashes. Baumann was moving smoothly in every corner of the court as he maintained wonderful pressure on his challenger and reached 11-6.
In the second part of the final game, Baumann utilised every skill he had and played with variations to gain a good advantage. He was successful in keeping his opponent under pressure in the entire final set and finished it in impressive fashion by a 21-13 score, in just 14 minutes. The 50-minute battle ended with a 24-22, 17-21 and 21-13 score on the board.
