Marin Cilic is not intimidated by Andy Murray – Tennis News
World number 13, Marin Cilic, got rid of Martin Klizan in the fourth round of the US Open championship to book a date with the fourth ranked Briton, Andy Murray. The Croatian tall lad has given an ultimatum of pulling up an upset
in the quarter-final at New York provided he is on song and doesn’t incur an injury.
Murray, on the other end, is holding nothing at all and slamming his opponents. The last victim was the 21-year-old Canadian star, Milos Raonic, who fell in straight sets in the eve of Monday. It looks to be a very entertaining
battle as both the competitors are at the top of their form.
Cilic stated, “It's really interesting for me, another big challenge. Andy's obviously playing really well. When I feel well, I feel I can match up with anybody."
Murray commented afterwards, “On this surface, against a big hitter like him [Raonic], normally you'll have to save some break points. But I served really smart today, did a good job behind my serve. I did the same at the Olympics.
I didn't get broken the last three matches I played there. It's really important to serve well the deeper you go in the tournament. It conserves a lot of energy.”
It seems like both players are eager to power down one another in the clash of the in-form athletes. Murray is definitely the favourite to come out on top considering his emphatic form coupled with some glorious previous head-to-head
triumphs against Cilic.
Murray has won seven of the nine clashes between the two athletes and is unbeaten since the last six encounters. So, the battle is there to be won by him but Cilic has the ability to stun anyone on his day. The height factor will
definitely play a major role in deciding the winner.
A good memory for the Croatian 12th seed is that he has defeated the Briton superstar at the hard courts of Flushing Meadows, New York in 2009. It was the fourth round clash the 23-year-old Croatian won the battle in
straight sets, so he can seek inspiration from that victory and try to repeat a similar performance on Wednesday.
