Marina Erakovic hits the career-high ranking in women’s tennis – Tennis News
Kiwi number one, Marina Erakovic, has achieved yet another milestone in her professional tennis career. She has registered a new career high ranking according to the latest edition of women Tennis Association’s ranking list issued
on Monday. She is now the 43rd ranked player in the world and plans to climb further with her promising display in the clay season.
She started the season miserably; faced first round exits in the ASB Classic in Auckland and Moorilla Hobart International. She only made it to the second round of the year’s first Grand Slam tournament, the Australian Open. It
was such a poor start that she had a challenger level tournament in Cali but her performance further dipped seeing an upset in the second round at the hands of the Luxembourg beauty starlet, Mandy Minella.
Another dismal performance in the clay court tournament in Bogota further sunk her cause of breaking into the Top-50 players of the tournament. However, she didn’t lose heart and continued to train hard during the practice sessions.
Her efforts were paid back in the Regions Morgan Keegan Championship when she cruised into the final of the tournament having started it as the fourth seed player. She was the victim of an upset in the final but her progress was
absolutely delightful for the Kiwi fans who were very disappointed to see their prolific tennis ace falling apart.
First and second round exits in the major tournament in Indian Wells and Miami hinted another poor run of form for her but she turned around her luck in the Family Circle Cup at Charleston; made it to the third round of the contest
before being knocked-off by the fifth seed American, Serena Williams, who later on won the title on Sunday.
She still needs to improve her game play and the record of 10-9 this year. It might be difficult for her to enhance her ranking further up if she continues to fail in the early stages of the major tournament. However, the new career-high
rank will give her a boost and the 24-years-old Old Kiwi might stun everyone in the coming days.
