Marina Erakovic trounces Karolina Pliskova to reach round two – Family Circle Cup 2012
Kiwi superstar, Marina Erakovic, eased past the Czech booming starlet, Karolina Pliskova, in the opening round of the Family Circle Cup. She grabbed the victory in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 and marched into the pre-quarterfinal stage
of the tournament.
The contest was played on the clay courts of Charleston and lasted just 73 minutes before the 17th seed Kiwi grabbed her first head-to-head win against the 20-years-old Czech. The match was completely hijacked by some
smart and stunning display of the Kiwi starlet. She won the toss and elected to face the return instead of serving the game so that she could apply pressure on her opponent from the start.
Pliskova could only win a single point during the first serve game and went down 2-0 at the start. She was further assaulted with some startling all round shots from the Kiwi who won another breakthrough in the fifth game to mount
pressure on her opponent.
Scores were pushed to 5-1 courtesy to an easy serve hold. Pliskova tamed to her second serve hold and diminished the trail to 5-2. Erakovic made no mistake in the last serve game of the set and won the battle quite easily that
cleared the air of any upset in the making.
The Czech player once again started miserably; dropped a serve game and trailed 2-0 at the start of the second set. It was getting pretty ominous for the 20-years-old Czech who was trying her level best to stay focused. The unforced
errors were the main cause that led to her downfall.
She was battling hard to make an impact but soon after getting on top of the point, she lost it to a tamed shot that usually ended beyond the sidelines or straight at the net. The set was evenly poised for a minute when Pliskova
broke serve in the eighth game but wasn’t able to register a serve hold in the following to impose any sort of pressure.
Erakovic won the last game and confirmed the spot in the second round of the tournament where she will go head-to-head against Anna Tatishvili.
