Marina Erakovic wants a second shot at Olympics gold – Tennis News
Kiwi tennis ace, Marina Erakovic, wants another shot at the Olympics gold and is working extremely hard to make a strong case to ensure the New Zealand’s Olympics Committee (NZOC) that she has still got a lot
more left in her to have her second appearance at the Olympics 2012. She has been extremely competent in 2011 and has made a strong mark to convince the Olympics committee to consider her as a worthy contender to have a blast at the Olympics gold in 2012.
23-year-old has proved with her enthralling performances this season that she is not going to bow in any circumstances. Eager to land in London Olympics 2012, Erakovic desires to deliver her best to fulfil her
dream. Olympics committee has been impressed by her prolific approach to the game and have been considering a place for her in Olympics next year, only if the global body allows her participation in that campaign.
Erakovic was convinced that she will have another shot at the Olympics and while talking about her achievement and dream of Olympics, she said, “All I can do is really go out and play the tennis and try and do
my best and if I qualify it will be fantastic. I would really love to go, I think New Zealand would like to be represented in as many sports as it can at the Olympics, and at the moment I'm the only tennis one out there."
She is currently ranked world number 61 and she can easily make it to the Olympics next year but NZOC has another strict criterion for the group of participants of Olympics, stating that a player should be amongst
the top 16 performers of the world in his/her respective sport to confirm her berth in the Olympics.
This criterion is very tough considering that tennis is played all across the globe and Kiwi players have never been amongst the top 20 performers of the world lately. Because of intensified competition in the
world of professional tennis, it is thorny for the average ranked players to climb up to those elite rankings and one has to be a perfect role model of tennis to accomplish the feat.
Even if Erakovic will wins everything in the next year, the hectic tennis schedule will still not allow her to break into the top 20’s in the women’s rankings. NZOC might consider her for an exception and she
might clinch a berth in Olympics 2012 but it all depends on her next year’s initial performances.
