Marine Corps Boot Camp?

I signed up for the Marines in May and I leave Nov 3rd for Parris Island. I just had a great summer visited out of state relatives and now it is really hitting me. I am getting really nervous about Boot Camp. I am highly motivated and work out and I am always trying to make myself better. Is this normal that I am feeling scared and nervous? I refuse to fail and fear failing.

  1. There isn't one person who hasn't been a little bit nervous about going to Boot Camp.

If you are highly motivated, work out, and want to make yourself better, you're 90% there.

When you get there you'll be with a bunch of guys just like you, they won't know  anybody else, they'll be nervous. What you do is  become a team, you work together and help each other out. That's where the other `10% will come from.

Enjoy the rest off the summer, Marine!

  2. Completly normal!!

You are changing your whole lifestyle but don't sweat it.

Take it one day at a time and don't lose heart.

    Good luck to you.

  3. Barry hit the nail right on the head.

If you want to go that other 10% and achieve that 110, than just do what you are told. You will not understand who, what, when, where and why at first but with your teammates help all of you will figure it out.

Remember always.... that team comes before an individual. ALWAYS! Also, put your troops first and the rest will fall into place. Take care of them and they will take care of you.

It is normal to feel nervous. You will have some crappy times and some great times. But one thing you will remember for the rest of your life is the experience you are about to endure. It is AWESOME to reflect on those memories and how proud your family, friends and your country are that you made it through!

    Good luck!!!!!!!

  4. Absolutly! Dont worry though. Its very tough. But you will HOPEFULLY get used to it aboput a month in. Just keep going, dont give up and you can make it. Trust me. You will be ****** proud as h**l when you get that Eagle Globe and Anchor! Good luck to you.

  5. it is perfectly normal. My cousin was really nervous too but now that he has been in for 12 years he says it was all worth it.

  6. Definitely normal...I was a little nervous, but not scared.  It affects people differently.  My smile on my face while transiting from the airport to MCRD quickly faded when a Marine stormed on the bus telling us to get off.

  7. its normal because it is a life changing experience. hopefully you will be able to bring things out of it to change yourself for the better. everyone can learn something.

my husband had very low self confidence, and he came out a new person with respect for new things.

i would be concerned if you didnt feel this way. you just have to remember that in the end it is all worth it.

boot camp is hard, it is the hardest of all military boot camps. it is physically and mentally stressful. I always tell people you can physically train for as much as you want before you go in, but you can never train yourself for the mental and emotional games they play on you.

have a good support system with your family and friends and you be will fine. you want fail because you have enough strength to make it through knowing there is an end.
