I am wondering if the Marine Corps will replace the M16a4 with the M4 carbine or the m4a1 in the near future or are they just going to stick with the m16?

  1. Right now the M16 is being replaced with the M4; any thing to replace the M4 will be some years away as the testing, evaluation and contracting will all start again.

  2. The government had the ACR a program to replace the m16 most recently the H&k XM8 was the hope to replace all the military as the standard rifle but it was out on hold in 05 before that the styer and the FN SCAR has started to be implemented in special force operations.

  3. As the muzzle loaded wears out it will be replaced with the M4 or equivalent.

  4. The Marine Corps tested the M4 during 2000 or 2001, can't really remember.  3/2 was the east coast battalion chosen and some battalion wiht 5thMArines on the west coast.  A few of my friends told me about them (I was with 3/6).  It was tested and found wanting by whoever makes those decisions.  If we were going to switch over we would have done it then.
