so far all the photos of Marine officers with Naval flight badges (the wings, shield and anchor) while in the service alphas are not wearing the riffle or pistol shooting badges, I know its optional but why is it when I see that badge they often choose not to wear the shooting badges.

  1. Are you sure they HAVE those badges? Either that or they might figure that it is assumed if they have the one.. they must have the others.

  2. Even though authorized, most officers do not wear qualification badges for weapons; marksmanship, grenades, vehicles, etc....

    It's always been the tradition

  3. Navy officers don't wear the same shooting badges the Marines do.  They were blue ribbons for rifle and pistol marksmanship.

If a Marine is not wearing a marksmanship badge my guess is that he failed to quality as an expert and is too embarassed to wear anything else.
