I'm 17 Senior in high school planning on joining the military for a career and decided to go ROTC in college and get commissioned as an officer. Well before I decided or even thought about ROTC I was leaning towards Marines, but now I'm not sure. I talked to both recruiters and they seemed pretty biased.. So uh which one is better for a Career? I'm planning on going infantry..

  1. Sorry but I have to say neither.

    Do the Air Force.

    They have way better training.

Way better treatment to their officers.

    Way better everything.

My brother is a AF Officer.

    He loves it.

He used to be in the Army and hated it.

And his friend is a Marine Corps officer and he also said he dose not like it.

The Air Force would be more rewarding!

  2. Marine Corps!

  3. Go for the marines if you really want infantry, anything else i'd probobly side with army.

  4. If you don't know which branch you want to join that would tell me that have not yet been accepted into the ROTC program. It's no joke to get accepted. You might be putting the cart before the horse. If you are looking for a scholarship from the military you have a long road ahead of you. before you even get that far you need to decide what you want more, to be an infantry man or an officer. Big...HUGE difference. Figure out what is the higher priority, being infantry or being an officer, then if you even qualify for an ROTC scholarship, then apply for all of them an see if anyone accepts you.

    Good luck!

  5. army

  6. Question for you: What do you want to do AFTER infantry?  Don't limit yourself on just two branches.  The Air Force and the Navy are looking for great Airmen and Sailors too!  :)

  7. Marine corp semper fi

  8. Any recruiter you'll go to is going to be biased towards their own branch.

The best thing for you to do, is weigh all facts about both branches you can gather, and go for the one that better suites your desires.

If you want to be a part of a better fighting force with a stronger brotherhood, the Marines are for you.

If you want a better chance at choosing an MOS, a choice of station, and easier advancement, the Army is clearly a better choice on those options.

    Hope I helped.

EDIT: LOL, Grillzz5, the air force does NOT provide better training! It does for such MOS that pertain to the air feild, and military Fire fighting, but that's it! I hardly doubt the air force would have better training for any infantry related fields!

Here's the break down, if want to hold a military title, but still live the life of a civilian, Air force is the best choice.

  9. My opinion is that you need to decide now whether you're going to make a career out of the military or a career out of your major.  I know it kinda sucks to be 17 and have to be deciding all this right now, but that's life.  If you want to go into the military for 4-8 years and that's it, then you shouldn't even be thinking about army versus marines, you should be thinking about whats the best college you can get into with your gpa/sat score/extracurriculars.

My best advice is that you need more time to think about this and not make a life changing decision from a bobble-head off of yahoo.com.  So what do you do?  Nothing!  Don't forget that you don't NEED to go through ROTC to become an officer. (I'm not completely sure on this but I also think you can start ROTC your sophomore or junior year too) I just finished my 3rd year of college, spent 10 weeks in officer candidate school and will be commissioned after this year of college.

    Now for my biased opinion...

If you're gonna do something, do it right.  Marine Corps.  Semper Fi.

  10. It might seem cool to choose infantry as a career but you should serve time before you make any of these decisions..Infantry is not what you think it is and not everyone can do it..

You make it seem as if being a Marine is a "gimme"..then you choose infantry..then you wish to become a USMC officer..

Read here..it tells you about who should strive to be a USMC officer..A degree does not equal leadership skills and a degree does not mean you should be a USMC officer

    http://lavadog23.webs.com/officerenliste...

and as for you debating between the Amry and USMC ..well the two are not the same thing..So choose the one that best fits you but understand the USMC has about 185,000 Marines while the Army has well over 600,000 Soldiers..So not everyone who wishes to be a Marine will become one..There are reasons for that.

  11. Marines!!  A few good men. . .

  12. I don't mean to bash your dream or anything but with two conflicts going on and you going infantry how do you expect to obtain a bachelors degree and officer training school? That was just a question I thought I would put out there maybe you haven't thought about. I'm Army Infantry ship out in February for boot. I'm not going to be an officer just don't want to deal with the school. If you've been leaning Marines for a while go Marines you won't regret it regardless, Marines have a lot to offer. Good luck.

  13. Marines, if you go Army you'll always wonder, "what if" when you see a Marine.

Besides, Marines are way better for infantry.  Army guys come back from Iraq with post traumatic stress while all the Marines I've talked to loved fighting and desire to go back.

Who do you want to lead, average guys with guns or warriors who love battle?

  14. Just pick the one that you feel more of a connection with. Which one would make you the most proud to serve? Read about the history of both services and see if that helps you decide.

  15. Do you want to do a 7 month tour or a 15 month tour?  I know the Army is hurting for officers right now since they've been beefing up the number of recruits, I have also heard that Army recruiters are a lot harder to work with.  I would also recommend not doing the ROTC route, you might change your mind.  I can't speak for the Army but I know that with the Marines you can go to ocs and decline the commision.  Getting infantry is competetive...
