  1. I went to a college that had one of the best marine science schools in the country and there were lots of marine mammalogy majors.  I don't think any of the ones I know ever found work in their field, except maybe one who went on for a PhD and now owes hundreds of thousands of dollars in student loans.

Marine mammalogy is the study of whales, dolphins, manatees, sea lions, seals, dugongs, otters, and some say even polar bears. Lots of people want to get into the field b/c they think it's romantic to save the whales or they want to train dolphins, but those jobs don't pay anything and there are miles of people lines up who will work for peanuts b/c they love what they do.  it's not an area of study for someone who wants to make a living wage.  It's for people who are really committed to what they do.  If you don't really understand the field and your hearts isn't in it, don't go that way.  Maybe just marine science or marine chemistry or marine biology.

  3. Apearently, it does exist, and it involves exactly what you would think:

    The study of marine mammals.

As for the pay, that depends on what you do.
