Question:

Marine Officer/ NROTC question?

Do you personally or know anyone that has been through NROTC and thought it was a mistake, either for committing so early or because as an officer, you had no respect from the marines you were leading because you weren't a mustang? Does anyone know of someone who went through NROTC (Marine Option) and enjoys what they do and how they went at doing it?

  1. If youre not sure about NROTC than just go to OCS or PLC.  Every officer ive ever met loved what they were doing,

  2. Don't believe that because you started as a 2nd Lt. you will never have the respect of your men and will somehow be forever classed as an unsuccessful officer. Yes, some people become officers after enlisting and they do have much more initial respect, but it is not easy to become an officer after you are enlisted.

What really comes down to determining how you are seen as an officer is your desire and determination to learn and perform your job. It doesn't matter where you came from, what matters most is your attitude.

  3. Well, the butter bars and the 1st Leuy won't get respect behind closed doors form the mustang Marines but they will certainly give it while in the open!  Marines encourage others to take lead, that is the Marines way of life, "teamwork".  That is why the young Officers have their NCOs and SNCOs for support!
