Question:

Marine PFT-3 mile run

I know Marines are required to run 3 miles in a certain amount of time..I think around 31:00 for girls. Do you have to constantly be running for the 3 miles or can you walk 10 steps or whatnot and run again as long as you finish in the amount of time? Just wondering. It's likely I'll be a future Marine. Thanks so much for the help.

  1. Well, you CAN walk, but no self-respecting, highly-motivated Marine would ever walk during the PFT.  If you do the 3 miles in 31:00, you'll get mocked, insulted, and generally belittled.  That's the MINIMUM requirement.  Faster means faster points.

I was also in the MPs and we ran all the time.  But, PT is a huge determiner of promotions, meritorious masts, etc.

  2. You can walk. You just need to finish it in the required amount of time.

  3. No you do not have to constantly run but the finish line will come sooner if you don't stop.  Remember that 31min is the minimum.  Running is something that you will do almost everyday.  Good luck.
