thanks,

perry

  1. What you want is a fiberglass blank. Go to any custom fishing rod maker and they can sell you one or set you on the right track.

If you are looking for a stainless whip, go to a store that sells cb radios. They should have that type. Remember on a boat a long whip will need to be tied up top. They whip will be all over the place.

  2. If this antenna is connected to a transmitter, it must be matched to the bandwidth of the transmitted frequencies in order to get maximum range.

If the antenna is a gain one with 3,6 or 9 db gain, (used by marine VHF-FM transceivers) you must NOT change the whip part of the antenna, it will be matched as it is for maximum performance, for both receive and transmit.

Antenna whips, the stainless part which is removable, is cut to length to match the base (gain part) for the frequencies in which it will be used. (generally, longer whip lower frequency - shorter whip higher frequency)

Larsen is a huge manufacturer of these type of antennas and they are available at most two way radio shops.

Because 2 meter ( 144 - 148MHz) is slightly below marine VHF (156 - 174) I assume you must be using it for amateur radio (ham), and for that I am unsure exactly what is available.

  3. Shakespeare makes whip antenna's, I have one. Go to shakespeare-marine.com

  4. Type in Marine Radio Antenna in search box.  Press GO!!!!!!

  5. Many antennas that have a base load have a tuned and matching whip length. If you change the length of the whip you will compromise the efficiency of the antenna.
