Marine aviation question?

i'm looking for a job in the Marine Corps that will let me be a gunner on a plane or a helo doesn't matter to me. what field is it and can you give me a link to it. and is the only one being a crewcheif in a helo...?

  1. There aren't very many of these slots left. Most gunships are now the Super Cobra which doesn't rewuire a door gunner. The best bet is to apply for helicopter mechanic school. You can go from there to crew chief, which is about the only hope of being a door gunner.

    Otherwise, you go in as an officer and get a job as a weapons officer on an attack plane or helicopter.

  2. the only way to do it coming in the marine corps is to enlist as aircrew or as a crew chief. You can also go into another aviation field, i.e., flight line, avionics, airframes, or engine mechanic, and after awhile volunteer to be an aerial observer and get into door gunning. However, this way is harder, your shop has to let you and you have to find time to do the basic requirements on your own usually. Either way, you have to be an exceptional swimmer and be willing to go to sere training, which is physically intense.
