Marine corps? what does semper fi mean??? ?

i saw one of those military photos of my friend thats in the marines, i think it was a graduation pic. hes in full uniform and theres a flag behind him. he signed the back of it and wrote "semper fi" what does this mean?? is it his rank or something or what???

semper fi is short for semper fidelis which means "always faithful" to the corps, your fellow marines, and your family.

Semper Fi stands for Semper Fidelis which means "Always Faithful" in Latin. It's the Marine Corps "motto"

Semper fideles is the motto of the Marine Corps--it means "always faithful".  Marines sometimes use "semper fi" as 'goodbye' or 'see you later'--it's sort of like "aloha"--it can be multi-purpose.  

Marines are REALLY LOYAL to each other: once a Marine, always a Marine, unlike other branches of the military.  They make the Three Musketeers' "all for one and one for all" look like "every man for himself!"  There are a number of things that make the Corps different from the other branches, which Marines are really proud of: the "semper fi" means to them they're a cut above everyone else.

Go watch Heartbreak Ridge--it's an enjoyable movie and it may help you understand the Corps a bit.

As was already stated, Semper Fi = Semper Fidelis = Latin for "Always Faithful."

I did want to mention that a pseudo-motto is going around, "Semper I." It's when a fellow Marine acts like a selfish jerk.
