  1. Robert R. Has the right Answer except you need an Oceans Endorsement if you travel to another Country.

  2. Try this website, it should give you all the info you need for your voyage.

  3. Not sure what the requirements are for a Canadian citizen. For a US citizen, you would need as a minimum a 100 ton Near Coastal master's license with STCW, plus an endorsement for each Canadian province you're planning on sailing in. If the boat is going to be sailing at all, you'll also need an Auxiliary Sail endorsement.

With all respect to Andrewj_j, whose license is bigger than mine, no Oceans endorsement is needed unless you plan on cruising more than 200 nm offshore, which is neither necessary nor advisable for the trip you're planning.

  4. Check out the coastguard web site.

  5. if you are doing it commercially, like if the boat is being rented, then you have to have a captain's license or at least it is strongly recommended. it really depends on the situation. captain's licenses are issued in ranks according to the weight of the boat. (tonnage) determine the weight of the boat and that will tell you what level you need to have to captain the boat.
