i am 34 with a ged
To Whom it may concern:
I am writing this letter to request a waiver to join the United States Marines.
I have been attempting to join the military since 2001, however my AFQT score has prevented me from doing so. I have studied very hard, but much to my avail my score was a 25. You are aware that that score does not meet the minimum requirements, however, there are many reasons to consider me as a candidate despite this shortfall.
I have recently passed the medical exam given to me at MEPS on August 6, 2008. I have meet all the physical requirements of the military. I know that if I am accepted into the Marine corps I will be able to go to school and will work diligently to improve my score. Most importantly, I know what it takes to be in the service. My father, who adopted me at a very young age, was in the Marine Corps for 20 years. The military made him the man he is today, a man I look up to and hope to emulate. He is intelligent, skillful, and able to handle any situation put before him. Take the following as an example: 3 years ago he was diagnosed with Leukemia. His only option was to undergo an extensive and painful bone marrow transplant. This was extremely difficult on him, but no matter what happened, let that be a setback during recovery, or the horrible side effects, he stuck it out and survived. Had it not been for the training and skills he received in the Marines he may not have handled it the way he did. Seeing him endure all that pain with courage and honor made me realize even more how much I would benefit from the Marine Corps. I want to be in the Marine Corps for many reasons. I want learn skills that I will be able to utilize for the rest of my life. I hope to be pushed above and beyond my limits in order to prove to myself I can rise above and conquer anything. I want to learn to expect nothing but the best from myself and those around me. I want to serve the country that I love. I want the confidence of knowing that I will make a difference with my life and also the lives of others. I want to walk away from the A Marine Corps knowing I am a better man than before, and improve myself-confidence in the place that I want to be, the U.S.M.C.. Most of all I want to honor my father and my country. If you give me this opportunity I will give 110% all the time. Please consider me for this waiver and give me the chance to prove what a outstanding solider I can be. I have never wanted anything more in my life then a chance to serve in the Marine Corps.
Sincerely,
Anthony R. Semonich
