  1. I could never figure out how officers were assigned thier jobs in the USMC.

I even asked our LT and I was even more confused. They seem to do many different jobs. They stay for about one deployment and then they move on to other units.

But I do not know how they go about getting placed.

I recommend you read this story here about USMC officers..

  2. When you are at TBS you will put in a request for an MOS. Your selection will be based on your performance at TBS and suitability for each MOS, in addition to your personal preferences.  Marines are riflemen first ...

  3. Short answer, no, you do not, unless it's law.  You may have the option to pick air (pilots) or ground (everything else).

Basically, once you're going through TBS, the class is divided into thirds by their score in class.  The first person from each of those thirds will get the first choice of jobs.  Example, a class of 300, the job choices would go like this - 1, 101, 201, 2, 102, 202, etc....  Hope this helps, feel free to contact me for more information.

edit: OCS to TBS, silly me, sorry!

  4. My recruiter told me that as an officer, they place you anywhere they would like... thats what made me avoif going in as an officer
