I asked this the other day but missed if anyone replied. In the marine corps, is there a 2 yr active duty service option? I believe it comes with a 2 yr reserve duty obligation as well. Im pretty sure the army has it, I was just wandering about the marines as well. Thanks

  1. No. In the Marine Corps you will do 4 active, 4 inactive.

  2. 4 years active 4 years inactive, but you are looking at the wrong career path. anyone who signs up for the marines is there for as long as the corp sys the need to be there. you sign to be a marine not for how many years you have to serve

  3. contracts are for 4 active 4 reserve, as the person above me said.

Mine was 5 active, three reserve. If you really want to be a Marine, you'd enlist no matter what the time required for your contract is. If you're willing to not enlist just because you want the shorter option to test the water, I'd say don't bother.

  4. When I was in the Army, there was a 2yr option, but the thing is, most recruiters don't talk about it unless you ask, and even then, you might have to nag them about it. I recommend taking as short an enlistment period as you can.  If you decide you like the military, you can always re-enlist at the end of your term, but, if you hate it, you won't have to spend as much time.
