Mario Andretti confident that the United States GP has finally found fixed home – Formula 1 news
Former F1 world champion, Mario Andretti, thinks that the United States Grand Prix has finally found a track that may become permanent at hosting it as the race makes a comeback on the new Circuit of The Americas (CoTA) this weekend.
Andretti had the pleasure to inaugurate the circuit last month along with actor Patrick Dempsey and Lotus F1 third driver Jerome D'Ambrosio. As the race approaches near and different F1 teams have been speculating the new track, Andretti has also added his
own review of the circuit.
“When I saw the place in June I had my doubts about this ever going ahead,” the 72-year-old told The Observer. “But I've been amazed at the work that has taken place since. There were big difficulties, because the whole project fell into different hands.
But there was a passion and a resolve to perform miracles and make it work. And now this can be the fixed home of the US Grand Prix. And I think that fact will see the event not only surviving but thriving in the future.”
The former champion had been as thrilled as now when he first drove over the circuit. He had stated that the track was phenomenal and had turned out to be much more than he had actually anticipated. D’Ambrosio had also immensely appreciated the track pointing
out that the circuit consisted of some good places to overtake and long fast sweeping 'S' corners. As all the drivers are looking forward to exploring the track, they are also excited about enjoying the city of Austin. The Lotus driver added that the city
was superb and the enthusiasm of the people will be greatly enjoyed by the F1 teams.
The United States GP has been in and out of the Formula 1 season since 1908. It was known as the American Grand Prize at that time. The last race had taken place in 2007 over the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and was won by Lewis Hamilton of McLaren. The driver
is very thrilled about the return of the race and is hopeful of winning it again which will definitely bring some respite to his frustration on McLaren’s reliability issues.
