The former Bayern Munich winger reckons that the Reds are better off playing without Arjen Robben as he is selfish and not a team man.
Mario Basler feels that Bayern Munich would be better served without having Arjen Robben in the team. He reckons that the winger has not been at his best this season so far and the likes of Thomas Muller should be given the chance
to play on the right wing. Basler stated that the Reds were a far better side without the Dutchman, and were producing favourable results.
However, Bayern have not been able to live up to their usual standards since the arrival of Robben after a long term injury. The Holland international spent most part of the first-half of this season on the sidelines due to his
groin problem but his absence didn’t have a significant effect on the Bundesliga giants as Bayern continued to produce the results.
Basler believes that Bayern must replace Robben on the right hand side with a youngster, who is more of a team player. The Munich giants have been heavily linked with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Xherdan-Shaqiri-c37074 and a deal could be finalized
in the next few weeks.
While talking to local newspaper, Sports1, the 43-year-old former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904 international further added:
"It's crystal clear for me after the draw against Hamburg; http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arjen-Robben-c6521 has to be dropped from the starting XI. Bayern were at their best before the winter break when the Dutchman wasn't around due to his injury. He always does
the same thing. He gets the ball, cuts inside, and then shoots or loses the ball without tracking back.”
Basler opined that only team work can lead any side towards the title, and if Robben continues to be selfish than Bayern might not be able to achieve their goal. "It doesn't matter whether he's a star. It's all about the team,"
the former Werder Bremen winger concluded.
The Bavarian giants are currently second on the league table with 41 points, two short of Borussia Dortmund, who are leading the title race. Their next league game will be on Saturday, February 11, at the Allianz-Arena.
