Mario Been steps down as Feyenoord Rotterdam coach – Dutch Eredivisie news
Reports from Rotterdam suggest that Mario Been has resigned as Feyenoord Rotterdam head coach after most of his players spoke of having lost faith in the Dutch trainer. The 47-year-old has been holding the reins of the Rotterdam giants since his arrival
in the summer of 2009.
The Dutch trainer guided De Stadionclub in his first season to a fourth place finish in the league table and booked a UEFA Europa League berth. However, the 47-year-old failed to steer his side to success in the season ended, finishing at tenth place in
the league table.
Furthermore, in October 2010, the Rotterdam giants also recorded their worst defeat in the history of the club under the leadership of Been at the hands of none other than their arch rivals, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/PSV-c40281 Eindhoven.
The poor results in the recently concluded season saw the Stadiumclub faithful call for the Dutch trainer’s scalp, but the club management gave the 47-year-old their vote of confidence. However, with the players starting to publically express their doubts
regarding the 47-year-old being the right man to lead Feyenoord in the upcoming season, the tactician decided to step down from his post.
The former Netherlands International started his managerial career as the assistant coach at De Kuip Stadion in the 2000/01 season. The tactician became the head coach of SBV Excelsior prior to the 2004/05 term and guided his side to play in the Dutch top
tier. However, his most successful stint came at McDOS Goffertstadion, where he steered http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/NEC-c40018 Nijmegen to play European football in 2008.
Of the 23 players in the squad, 20 had voiced their concerns, reports suggest. Martin van Geel, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Feyenoord-c39258 technical director, informed the tactician about the players’ decision and the former NEC coach decided to leave the managerial hot seat at De Kuip
Stadion.
The club management is yet to confirm the departure of the Dutch trainer but an official statement is expected to be given at a press conference scheduled later for today.
